Coming up: A Global Stevia Institute Scientific Session at the 12th European Nutrition Conference, October 20th, 2015.
The Global Stevia Institute will be sponsoring a scientific session titled, “Can stevia really make a difference? Understanding processing, safety and benefits of a new type of sweet,” at the Federation of European Nutrition Society’s 12th European Nutrition Conference (FENS 2015). This conference is held once in four years and this year it’s at the Estrel Convention Center in Berlin, Germany, October 20th – 23rd, 2015. The FENS is a non-profit federation of 26 European Nutrition Societies, each representing one country.
This year’s FENS conference theme is, “Nutrition and health throughout life-cycle – Science for the European consumer.” The conference is designed to communicate the latest scientific information that can help European citizens and consumers live a healthy life through all periods of life.
Those who attend the GSI session on stevia will learn about: stevia sweetener from the plant Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni; the processing of steviol glycosides from the stevia leaf; metabolism, and the established safety of steviol glycosides in high purity stevia leaf extract; and the role that stevia sweetener can have in calorie and sugar reduction, as well as weight and glucose management. Lastly, they will also hear about emerging stevia trends and about the global use of stevia in foods and beverages.
Scientific presentations at the conference will include presentations, both oral and posters, and debates on topics that revolve around five major topics: ‘ Food and nutrient intake, dietary patterns, dietary guidelines; Advances in dietary studies, methodology and design; Metabolic diversity; Nutrition, public health, and chronic diseases; and Food quality, food safety, sustainability, consumer, behavior and policy.’
